Photo Heart Connection Images for March

March's Photo Heart Connection has just been posted on Kat Sloma's website. I look forward to these heart connections links because I really do believe that each month there are photographs that I take that really speak to me.

I was trying to decide between these two images. The bottom one taken on March 1st on San Juan Island, my home, and the top one taken on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day, on Vashon Island, during our annual retreat.

I finally chose the top image because I find this particular tree to be so utterly mesmerizing each year that I get to see it during our retreat. It's such a perfect time of year too - although year there were very few weather breaks. This year we had a cold snap with thunder storms (rare on the West Coast), driving hail and pounding side ways rain storms. I was fortunate to have found a perfect sunny break to snap a few photos. This tree just always calls to me - that's why I've chosen it for my photo-heart-connection for March.
I loved this image too though - taken as March began on my morning drive to work. I'm a  'mist hound'. I love what mist and fog can add to a landscape and the clouds this morning were truly a gift to behold!

  1. I love both photos. The dramatic sky in the lower one is wonderful and I love the tree. (I don't think I've ever met a tree I didn't like!) A dear friend was a talented photographer with black and white film. He and his wife would set out to "chase clouds". Your photo reminded me of them

  3. Both are beautiful, but I really love the second one, since we don't get that kind of panoramic view in the Chicago suburbs. Really lovely!

  4. I love the idea of being a "mist hound" - it is so beautiful. What a wonderful connection to that tree in the first one. What a lovely symbol of spring and rebirth for a retreat each year! I like the juxtaposition of the evergreen branches against the blossoms. Lovely. Thank you for sharing your Photo-Heart Connection this month, it brings me peace.

  10. Both are beautiful and the top one has such contract both in color and in texture... delicate flowers vs massive tree leaves.

  11. Both images are wonderful, the blossoms on that first tree almost look like snow. They are beautiful. So is SanJuan Island, I was up that way a few years ago and would love to be able to stop and wander the island. I look forward to seeing more local shots. - Susan

  13. Lovely shots, I love the way the trees in blossom spread their frivolous pink petals out towards that evergreen. How lovely to see the tree every year and the way it calls to you like an old friend.
The misty atmosphere in the second photo really speaks to me. I love the soft green of the the grass and the outline of the trees.
